Happy and you know it.

Happiness often seems like the simplest emotion. Despair and sadness have so many layers to them, but happy is simple, right? In fact, happiness, joy, and contentment are complex emotions in its own right, and can show up in different ways - depending on how hard we work to create them.

In Gretchen Rubin’s book The Happiness Project, she talks about different kinds of fun and the happiness they bring. There’s challenging fun, which requires future planning and lots of effort (think a camping trip). There’s accommodating fun, which requires community and compromise (think a family trip to the park). And finally, there’s relaxing fun, which is chilled and passive (think watching TV on the couch).

Challenging fun and accommodating fun, even though they take the most work and effort, create the greatest amount of joy, as well as the most long-lasting! Passive fun often feels good in the moment, but it’s fleeting.

This is why I think so many of my clients get long-lasting joy out of a personalised yoga therapy practice. It’s something that you have to put effort into, something that maybe isn’t necessarily fun all the time. But over a period of weeks and months, all that you put into your yoga therapy practice comes back to you in the form of long-lasting happiness.
