Your body is important.

Growing up in a modern Western culture, we’re told that our mind is the boss. We say things like “mind over matter”, and “if you can dream it you can do it” - which are great quotes when applied appropriately! But what happens when we start to value the mind more than all the other parts of our Self?

Mind vs. Body

The mind can be a wonderful place to be - but it can also be scary, stressful, and anxious. At times like this, it’s important to remember that your mind is not your Self - that your mind is just one part of what makes you you. We can do that by placing less importance on the mind, just for a little while, and dropping down into the body.

How do I get out of my head and into my body?

It’s really simple - use it. Try deep breaths, or a few star jumps, or thrashing around to your favourite song. Try applying pressure to the body, like a weighted blanket (or holding a chunky pet). Temperature works as well - book a sauna appointment, or hold an ice cube in your hand.

How does yoga therapy help?

Yoga therapy sees you as a holistic being. You’re not just your mind, or your body. You’re both. The practice of yoga can’t be broken down into physical and mental components - it’s a whole. So when we practice yoga we’re linking the body and the mind, allowing the mind to quieten down and the body to step up.
